Section Championship Basketball Recaps for FRIDAY (3/6)

FRIDAY CHAMPIONSHIPS
At Sleep Train Arena

Division III boys
SIERRA 67, WESTON RANCH 51
Senior center Joshua Patton controlled the inside of the key with 24 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocked shots as the Timberwolves beat their Valley Oak League rivals for the school's first boys basketball title in its short history. Head coach Scott Thomason, who has coached at Sierra for 15 years, saw his first blue banner and his 301st career victory.
Daniel Wyatt scored 18 points for Sierra, and teammate Hunter Johnson added 11 points and 14 rebounds. Weston Ranch, in its second Section championship game in school history, was led by Jaelen Ragsdale and Fred Lavender, who each scored 17 points.

Division III girls
VANDEN 83, RIO LINDA 51
Julia Blackshell-Fair scored 27 points and grabbed 21 rebounds - both game-highs - as the top-seeded Vikings rolled to victory over the #3-seed Knights. It was the first girls basketball Section championship in school history for Vanden; Rio Linda was also gunning for its first Section crown. The game was tight after the halftime buzzer - Vanden led 31-26 - but the Vikings opened the second half with a 9-0 and were off to the races from there.
Chantelle Greer scored 15 points and Kiana Moore added 11 for Vanden. Makaila Sanders led Rio Linda with 16 points, and her teammate Brandy Huffhines chipped in with 14.

Division V boys
BROOKSIDE CHRISTIAN 81, ELLIOT CHRISTIAN 67
Kenyon Williams scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the #2-seed Knights to their first Section boys basketball championship since 1998. They beat Central California Athletic Association rival Elliot Christian, the #4 seed, in their third matchup this year. Brookside won all three of those games.
Kameron Vales scored 20 points, while Derek Burgess added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights. David Lerma scored a game-high 31 points for the Eagles, including an 11-for-13 performance form the free-throw line.

Division V girls
CAPITAL CHRISTIAN 52, RIPON CHRISTIAN 43
Nicole Colbert scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds as the #3-seeded Cougars held off the #4 seed Knights. It was the first girls basketball Section championship in Capital Christian school history; it lost in the finals in 2007, 2013 and 2014.
Cierra McClain added 12 points, while Alanah McClain and Michaela Mahnke each had three steals for the Cougars.
Pamela Radach led Ripon Christian with 12 points, while teammate Elisabeth Regusci added 11. Carly Tillema pulled down 16 rebounds for the Knights, which we searching for their 12th Section title but only their first since 2002.
