Below you'll find the recaps from Saturday's six Sac-Joaquin Section championship games from Arco Arena.
DIVISION I BOYS
Sheldon 78, Franklin-EG 72
SACRAMENTO - Darius Nelson scored a game-high 29 points, leading the Huskies to the school's second Section title in four years. Sheldon, the #6 seed, was the lowest seed to win a Section title this year.
Huskies coach Joey Rollings becomes the fourth coach in Section history to win a Section title with a boys team and a girls team; he won it all with the Sheldon girls in 2006.
Huskies freshman Derryl Williams didn't miss a shot from the floor while scoring 18 points; he was 8-for-8 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Teammate Ramon Eaton had 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Anthony King led Franklin-EG with 20 points and teammate Chukwuemeka Iroegbu added 18 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Michael Rosaroso had 12 points.
DIVISION I GIRLS
Oak Ridge 64, Kennedy 50
SACRAMENTO - Caitlin Welsch scored 17 points, leading four players with double digits in scoring, as the Trojans beat the Cougars for the school's first Division I championship. Welsch also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Oak Ridge won a Division III title in 2003 and won the D2 crown last year. Now, the school's enrollment has pushed it into Division I.
After Welsch, Oak Ridge got big games from Sara James (15 points), Natalie Stone (12) and Carly Bettencourt (12). James, who will play for Stanford University next year, scored all of her points in the second half.
Leslie Leong led Kennedy with 20 points and she was followed by Cydni Matsuoka's 17 points. Shanice Butler, the Cougars' imposing inside presence, had six points and eight rebounds.
DIVISION II BOYS
Woodcreek 45, Oakmont 44
SACRAMENTO - Nick Milani scored 16 points, including three clutch 3-pointers, as the Timberwolves came back from a 12-2 first-quarter deficit to topple their SFL rival Vikings. Woodcreek trailed for much of the game after its slow start, but outscored Oakmont 19-13 in the fourth quarter for the victory.
Mike Kurtz scored 10 points, grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and had seven blocked shots for Woodcreek. Teammate Nik Stathopoulos added 11 points.
Oakmont, like Woodcreek, only saw five players score points. The Vikings were led by Alex Ford's 15 points and 12 points and 12 rebounds from Tony Gill. J.T. Adenrele, who formed a strong inside combo with Gill throughout the game, added 11 points and seven rebounds.
DIVISION IV BOYS
Modesto Christian 88, Colfax 80
SACRAMENTO - Senior guard Isaiah Burse had 29 points, four assists and five steals in leading the No. 3-seed Crusaders to the program's 11th consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section championship. It was Modesto Christian's 44th straight playoff victory, an ongoing record.
MC's Anthony Pratt added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds while Derek Evans scored 12 and Ryan Riner 10.
Chase Mosier led Colfax with 21 points and Ryan Salmonson had 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Justin Witt had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Falcons.
Burse has had a busy senior year. In the fall, he quarterbacked Modesto Christian to a 15-0 record, winning the school's first Sac-Joaquin Section title and the CIF State Small School Division Championship.
DIVISION II GIRLS
Vallejo 67, St. Francis 64
SACRAMENTO - Ashley Moore scored 32 points - giving her 116 for this postseason - as the No. 3-seeded Apaches beat the top-seeded Troubadours for their second D2 championship in four years. The game was tied in the final minute before Vallejo sealed the victory with some last-second heroics.
Rechel Carter scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for Vallejo.
Jolise Limcaco led St. Francis with 23 points, including five 3-pointers. The Troubadours, winners in the D2 championship in 2007 and 2008, also got 12 points from Briana Charles and 11 from Aurora Singh.
Moore's postseason output is the third-highest scoring total of any girls player in Sac-Joaquin Section history. Her 116 points places her only behind Kellie Cook of Nevada Union (149) and Jacki Gemelos of St. Mary's (117).
DIVISION IV GIRLS
Modesto Christian 64, Argonaut 39
SACRAMENTO - Brandi Henton scored 23 points, putting her over the 200-points career mark in the Section postseason, as the Crusaders rolled to their second consecutive Division IV title. Modesto Christian jumped out to leads of 18-3 after the first quarter and 32-8 at halftime and cruised from there.
MC teammate Taryn Garza added 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds and Danielle Thompson had 18 points and seven rebounds.
Argonaut was led by Lauren Godde's 18 points and eight rebounds, while her sister Erin added eight rebounds. Argonaut (30-1) became the third team in Section history to suffer its first loss of the season in the Section championship.
